Karlsruhe - pyramids at the Rhine River
The 280000 inhabitants counting city of Karlsruhe is located in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg in the lowlands of the upper Rhine River. In 1715 Margrave Karl Wilhelm of Baden Durlah built here - in the middle of his favourite forest - his new residence.
He also decided that all roads should lead fan-like from the village to the castle, today there are 32 of them.
Every year many tourists are attracted by the holiday-apartments, holiday-houses and hotels of Karlsruhe.
The residents of the town are very friendly and warm-hearted; a perfect atmosphere for relaxation and recreation.Heart of the city is the castle, which includes the Baden State Museum and is surrounded by castle gardens in English style.
South of the castle you will get to the market place, where - besides various neoclassic buildings - especially the 6, 50 meter high Sandstone Pyramid, the symbol of the city, impresses the tourists. The founder of the city found his final resting place inside the grave.
From your holiday-house or hotel it only takes you a few minutes to get to the Kaiserstrasse, the pedestrian zone and main shopping area of Karlsruhe.
The Rhine Harbour was put into operation in 1901 and is one of today’s most important inland ports. Many inhabitants as well as guests of Karlsruhe enjoy long walks or bicycle tours along the Rhine River.
The Rhine Terraces are not only a perfect place for strolling and dining, you can also feel a taste of wanderlust while watching the ships that are passing by.
