Luzon - the largest island of the Philippines
Luzon is the largest island of the Philippines. It is located in the north of the archipelago, is the main island of the province of the same name and has about 30 million inhabitants. Its southern part is defined by the huge capital region “Metro Manila”, the economic and governmental centre of the island state.
The appearance of the island is characterised by vast rainforests and the Cordillera Central, a mountain range with numerous active volcanoes.
The capital Manila is a good starting point for excursions around Luzon. In the city area, there are many good hotels of all price categories. Many buildings from the Spanish colonial era, but also parks, museums and other historical sites, such as Intramuros, attract tourists from the entire world.
Particularly in the north, visitors of Luzon will find a wonderful nature and many sights, which they can explore especially on trekking and hiking tours. Apart from numerous accessible cave systems, the picturesque rice terraces of Banaue, the hanging coffins of Sagada and the active volcano Pinatubo are particularly interesting.
The calm South, the region of artists and artisans, can be explored on beautiful panoramic roads. Private holiday flats along marvellous white beaches offer accommodation during a stay in this pristine region.
Offshore, there are breath-taking diving places, and mineral springs or fresh water lakes stretch across rainforests.
